La Cueva del Indio

La Cueva del Indio is a dramatic system of caves and cliffs along the Atlantic coast just east of Arecibo. The caves are less accessible after the Puerto Rico Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DNER) removed the rather precarious access ladder a few years back. You will find ways into the caves if you are hellbent on seeing the petroglyphs though, but it's tricky getting down there. At Km 7.8 you will find a parking lot and ticket booth along with some trinkets for sale. This is all on private property, right next to the caves. They charge $5/person. Technically the caves are free but the secure parking and easy access make it worth the small fee.
