La Parguera

Rent a simple 'john boat' in La Parguera that you can take out by the hour. Hop in and cruise over to the chain of mangrove islands out at the barrier reef. A truly incredible place. Rentals boats start at $40/hr. 8am-3pm. Arrive by noon at the latest. Take a cooler + picnic with you. The snorkeling along the edges of the mangrove can be very interesting- the water is crystal clear and there's a lot going on in the ecosystem's microcosm.

It's also possible to rent kayaks, but due to the afternoon winds I would get here early. The best parts of the mangrove are at the barrier reef, about 1 mile across the bay, it's a workout, but winds will be at your back for the paddle home.
